Q. When can you start driving in Korea?

As far as I know, driving is allowed from the age of 19. In Korean age. I got my driver's license when I was 20. As soon as I joined my company, the first thing I did was to buy my car. I really needed my car because at that time, I lived in a place where transportion was horrible. It was about 15 years ago. But, Last year, I got in a car accident and my car was completely dented and scrapped. Now, I don't have a car and don't drive now. Not only because of trauma but also because of the convenience of life. I got to know having no car makes me free in my life. I mean that since I have no car, no one wants me to do anything. You know what I mean.

Q. Is it easy to get driver's license in Korea?

Yes, I think it is easier to get it than other countries. There are three steps to get it. Written test, Actual driving test, Road test. But getting driver's licenses is so easy that the accident rates is increasing. In the past, it was so hard to get it and it was called an evil test. However, 20 years ago, for some reasons, the government began to lift many different regulations and Korean were allowed to obtain licenses so easily. Now, it starts to become a social issue. I think it should go back to the past and I suggest that pre-drivers should be required to get training about additional road manners and etiquette. Not only is accident rates getting serious but also, the conflict report rates on the road between car drivers is growing.
