About paranormal phenomena

초자연적 현상이란 정상적인 과학적 지식의 범위에서 설명이 불가능한 사건을 가르킨다. 예를 들면 심리학자 사이에서 유명한 일화 중 하나로 한 젊은 이탈리아 남성이 아침에 거울을 들여다 보았을 때 반백의 노인이 자신을 응시하는 것을 발견했다. 이러한 유령 목격담은 흔한 초자연적 현상의 예시이다. 이후 실험에서 그 이탈리아 남성은 놀랍게도 자신이 거울에서 발견한 반백의 노인과 같은 환영이 어둑한 빛 속에서 거울에 비친 우리의 모습을 바라봤을 때 흔하게 발견할 수 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 우리의 지식이 발전할수록 과학자들은 이러한 현상들을 더 잘 설명할 수 있게 되었다. 하지만 그렇다고 해서 그들이 모든 것을 설명할 수 있는 것은 아니다. 어떤 초자연적 경험은 여전히 우리의 지식이 설명할 수 없는 것이다.

 

Paranormal phenomena are events beyond the scope of normal scientific understanding. For example, one of the famous anecdotes among psychologists is one young Italian man who looked in the mirror one morning to find a grizzled old man staring back at him. Such ghost sighting is a common example of such paranormal phenomena. His later experiments confirmed that the illusion is surprisingly common when you look at your reflection in dim light. As our knowledge advances, scientists have become more able to explain them. However, it doesn't mean they can explain everything. Some paranormal experiences are still beyond our understanding.
