Small talk) What are important life skills that are not taught in school?

전화영어 후에 나눈 스몰톡에 대해서 다시 점검하고 원하고자 하는 대답을 영어로 정리해 본다.

Q. What are important life skills that are not taught in school?

학교에서 배우지 않는 중요한 인생 기술은 무엇인가요?

 

My answer is investment techniques. Anyone makes money in their lives. But, only a few people get to be rich. And many celebrities fail to invest money and end up being broke. It's not just for celebrities. it's also for ordinary people. It means that's how hard it is for people to make money. I would say that students should be required to go through training on how to invest in advance. 

내 대답은 재테크입니다. 누구나 살면서 돈을 법니다. 하지만 불과 몇 명만이 부자가 됩니다. 많은 연예인들은 든 투자하는 것을 실패하고 결국 빈털터리가 됩니다. 이것은 연예인에게만 해당되지 않고, 일반 사람들에게도 해당됩니다. 이 말은 그만큼 사람들이 돈을 벌기 힘들다는 것입니다. 나는 학생들이 미리 투자하는 방법을 배우는 훈련이 필요하다고 봅니다.

Q. Do you like rainy days?

당신은 비오는 날을 좋아하나요?

No, I don't like rainy days. Because it is annoying to carry an umbrella until it stops raining. Also, it is hard to drive a car on rainy days. The rain stream blocks my view and prevents me from driving. I'm afraid that it might cause me to hit someone on the street in the middle of driving.

아니요. 난 비오는 날을 좋아하지 않습니다. 왜냐면 비가 그칠때까지 우산을 들고 다니는게 귀찮기 때문입니다. 또한 비오는 날에 운전하는 것도 힘듭니다. 빗줄기가 내 시야를 가리고 운전하는 것을 방해합니다. 나는 그것이 운전하는 동안 길에 누군가를 칠 수도 있다는 것이 염려가 됩니다. 

Q. Do you prefer working alone or together?

너는 혼자 일하는 것을 좋아하니? 같이 일하는 것을 좋아하니?

Working alone is better for me. At work, I pretend to be willing to work together, but when it comes to my work, I pursue perfection. After getting the work done together, I organize my work again. No one knows the fact that. If someone knows that, they would think I'm crazy. 

나는 혼자 일하는 것이 더 낫다. 직장에서 함께 기꺼이 일하는 척 하지만, 내일에 있어서 나는 완벽함을 추구합니다. 함께 일을 끝낸 후에, 난 다시 내 일을 정리합니다. 누구도 그걸 알지 못합니다. 만약 그것을 안다면 나를 미쳤다고 생각할 수도 있습니다.

Q. Was there something that you had no choice but to give up?

I used to be a heavy drinker. I liked to hang out with friends and my co-workers for a drink. But, my husband hated that. So, I decided to quit drinking and I did it. The good thing about quitting drinking is to lose weight and be healthy. Also, I no longer argue with my husband about drinking problems. 

나는 한때 술고래였습니다. 나는 친구들과 동료들과 술마시며 노는 것을 좋아했습니다. 하지만 남편은 싫어했습니다. 그래서 술 끊을 것을 결심했습니다. 술끊어서 좋은 것은 살이 빠지고 건강해졌습니다. 또한, 난 더이상 술문제로 남편과 다투지 않습니다.

Q. If you have no choice but to leave Korea, which country would you move to?

만약 한국을 떠나야 한다면 어느 나라로 이사할 겁니까?

My first picked country is Canada. I'm thinking of moving to Canada in a few years. There are some reasons I go with Canada. First of all, I think there are pretty much fewer racists in Canada compared to other countries. And They are nicer to immigrants. Canada was a country based on immigrants in the first place. The plus is that they provide free education to children and a good welfare system for foreigners.

나의 첫번째 픽은 캐나다 입니다. 몇 년후에 캐나다로 이사할 생각입니다. 캐나다를 선택한 여러 이유가 있습니다. 우선은 캐나다는 다른 나라들에 비해 인종차별주의자들이 적다고 생각합니다. 그리고 이민자들에게 잘해줍니다. 캐나다는 애초에 이민자들로 기반된 나라입니다. 그리고 좋은 것은 자녀무상교육과 외국인에게 좋은 복지시스템하는 것입니다. 

Q. What's something that students have no choice but to do?

학생들이 할 수 밖에 없는 것이 무엇입니까?

Except for studying hard, I can say they have no choice but to have a harmonious friendship. They spend most of their time in a day with their friends. I think friendship is the most important for students during school time. 

열심히 공부하는 것을 빼고, 학생들은 친구들과 사이좋게 지낼수 밖에 없습니다. 그들은 하루 거의 대부분의 시간을 친구들과 지냅니다. 나는 학교생활동안 우정이 가장 중요하다고 생각합니다.

Q. What's something that students shouldn't do?

학생들이 해서는 안되는 것이 무엇입니까?

Bullying. I think bullying someone is the worst vicious act in the world. No one is allowed to bully someone. There are often celebrities who have been kicked out of the entertainment industry for bullying someone in the past.  

왕따. 나는 누구가를 괴롭히는 것이 세상에서 가장 사악한 것이라고 생각합니다. 아무도 누군가를 왕따 시킬 수 없습니다. 과거에 누군가를 괴롭혀서 연예계에서 추방당한 연예인들을 종종 봅니다.
